Information about Mead Medical

Mead Medical is the longest established medical group in the Kalamunda Shire. We are not corporatised and we are not answerable to a third-party business owner.

Mead Medical was established in 1956 in Canning Road, Kalamunda. In 1971 Mead Medical opened its first Forrestfield surgery at the corner of Dawson Avenue & Bauhinia Road to better serve the residents of the Foothills. Mead Medical Kalamunda moved to 12 Mead Street in 1974, and Mead Medical Forrestfield moved to 11 Salix Way in 1982.

Most Doctors at Mead Medical have admitting rights to Kalamunda Hospital and provide continuity of care to patients before, during and after hospitalisation. Several of our doctors also do minor surgery, anaesthetics and obstetrics at Kalamunda Hospital.

Mead Medical has been assessed by Australian General Practice Accreditation Ltd as meeting and/or exceeding all of the standards of a quality practice. We are recognised by the University of Western Australia as a training practice for future doctors and by Western Australian General Practice Education and Training (WAGPET) for Registrars training for their GP qualifications.

Mead Medical also boasts both the 2004 Australian RACGP GP of the Year (Dr Warren Thyer) and the 2004 WA Practice Manager of the Year (Ms Dot Melkus) on its staff. Additionally Mead Medical was recently awarded the 2005 Training Practice of the Year for WA by our state GP training body WAGPET.
